What to Expect
Before your one hour massage, Jon takes time to discuss any concern, injury, pain or health issue you may have. Then you lie on a massage table wearing your own soft clothing. No oils are needed or used. You begin by lying on your stomach and later turn onto your back.
Liu Family Tui Na works on the body holistically in layers. The hand gently lifts the tissues which allows more space for the circulation of blood/chi. Jon's training and sensitivity allow him to discern small changes in the energy and texture of the tissues so he can adjust the pressure and stroke accordingly. You may feel the warmth and relaxation of chi from Jon's hands, or notice your own chi gently moving through your body.
The Massage Experience
Jon begins with a gentle stroke to relax the skin which is essential to open the pores, capillaries, and relax the nerve endings. This sets the stage for a rubbing motion to relax the muscles, enhancing their circulation. Then he focuses on equalizing tension in the tendons which helps restore their elasticity and dissolve tender points.
An important rubbing technique along the spine concentrates blood/chi in the spinal cord. This allows the nervous system to adjust, helping it to relax, reconnect and synchronize with the soft tissue (muscles, tendons, ligaments, etc.). As the back relaxes, blood/chi circulation improves which increases energy, pain relief and the proper release of toxins.
Jon also relaxes the abdomen, called the second mind, which balances energy between the internal organs, calms the nervous system and aids the digestive system. As our second mind relaxes and coordinates with our regular mind, sleep and mental clarity improve.
Next, Jon uses a circular motion to draw chi toward the navel, which acts like a vortex, bringing chi to the abdomen and internal organs to improve their function.
Throughout the massage Jon also uses the massage stroke to restore and balance your chi, filling or emptying areas accordingly.
After your massage, you will slowly come out of deep relaxation. Jon will gladly explain the physiological changes you are experiencing and answer any questions you have. As your body revitalizes, the healing and feeling of well-being will continue to be felt long after your massage.
