Liu Family Tui Na
Liu Family Tui Na originated in Shanghai, China and grew out of the ancient art of tui na, Traditional Chinese Massage. From several different schools of tui na, hundreds of family systems evolved, passed down from generation to generation. While Liu Family Tui Na follows the basic principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine, with emphasis on the tendon system and supported by the meridian system, it has its own unique features.
The following characteristics of Liu Family Tui Na make it markedly different than other styles of tui na and other forms of massage.
> The body is worked on holistically in layers. First, a gentle stroke relaxes the skin which is essential to open the pores, capillaries, and relax the nerve endings. Relaxing this outer layer opens the gateway to the muscles. After the muscles are relaxed by a rubbing motion, circulation improves, allowing access to the deeper layer of tendons.
> The elasticity of the tendon is considered to be the basis for our strength and health. Once proper tension is restored to the tendon, the body is balanced and a joint can sit comfortably in its socket, allowing optimum circulation and a greater range of motion.
> The hand gently lifts the tissues, rather than presses down, allowing more space for the circulation of blood/chi. This lifting touch allows the layers of tissues to be sorted out, like straightening the pages of a crumpled newspaper.
> Chi, the energy that animates all life, is restored and balanced in the body. As the massage stroke relaxes the tissue it also fills or empties an area of chi accordingly.
These essential features of Liu Family Tui Na, lead to the revitalization of the body.
